LTTE Operating Four Air Strips

The LTTE's Zlin light aircrafts have been detected by the existing Air Defence System (Radar) on several occasions, including the last attack on Anuradhapura Airbase.

The lack of Anti Aircraft guns in each army detachment up to Anuradhapura has prevented ground forces challenging the two planes from proceeding to their target each time. They also seem to be avoiding flights over large Military Bases that are equipped with various types of AA guns (varieties cannot be revealed).

The Sri Lanka Army believes the LTTE is operating four airstrips at Iranamadu, Puthukudiiruppu, Nendunkerni and Mannar North. All four have been bombed in the past, including two hangars at Iranamadu, but the Zlin light-aircrafts had been moved from that location long before.

LTTE threatens new entrants to Universities

It is reported that the LTTE has threatened the families of undergraduates seeking admission to universities in the unredeemed areas in the Wanni to handover one member from their family to join the LTTE ranks if they were to be allowed to read for their Degrees.

This virtually amounts to conscription where members are forced to join the LTTE ranks. Some students from the above areas have reported to the Army post at Omanthai that unless a member of the family is sent to the LTTE cadres, they would not be permitted to pursue their studies at Universities.

About 12 students from Jaffna, Colombo and Ruhuna Universities have entered State controlled areas through Omanthai. It is also learnt that undergraduate of Wanni have been provided a basic combat training by the LTTE.
